BrainTwist OrientHalftoner1

I added a new denoiser in Simplify IpOp as a new algorithm there in Studio Artist V5.5. So you can use it to get a super smooth de-texturized look if you like that kind of thing.

I took a different tack for this experiment, using it in combo with some orientation modulated scale space processing to build an oriented halftone mask for the inherent noise in the image itself. I used the denoiser as a part of this process.

So if you auto-mask the flat part of the face, you can build the artificial structure in just the textured areas.

Proof of concept. Obviously i need to pay more attention to the overall coloring of the face for a generically useful preset for people. But i think this very quick experiment gets the idea across. Build the artificial structure where you want it, don't do it in other areas. So for audio people, think of side chain compressor modulation, then do it visually.

So something like this.

Stylized Screening

Example of using a space filling curve to generate a stylized black and white halftone screening effect.

Post Office Butcher

Another variant on the space-filling curve MSG effects i've been playing around with. This one incorporates some multi-octave gradient lighting image processing to build up the raised relief of the water-washed MSG halftone output.

Tasmanian Home Brewing

Trying some new experiments with halftoning using vector sketch paths as opposed to circular dots for the halftone elements. Run passes of sketch for cyan, magenta, yellow to build up final full color halftone sketch. Build a random screen for each pass, then use new Threshold vector output option to generate the sketch lines for the pass.

Line Sketch Halftoning

New approach to halftoning built in the paint synthesizer. It's running BW error diffusion in the paint color source control panel controlling a line sketch algorithm.

Old Man Scratches Head

Playing around with vector halftoning using the paint synthesizer. This one is not technically correct, since it's working with RGB fills as opposed to CMY for the 3 color passes. Note the partial dotting, which is the key to getting source detail rendition with large dot sizes.

Space Filling Curve Abstractions

I recently posted some cool MSG presets on the Studio Artist User Forum preset sharing group that show off some approaches to building halftoning effects out of space filling curves (like the Hilbert curve and other such mathematical variations for those of you technically inclined). One example shown above.

You need a copy of Studio Artist 4 to use these new abstraction presets. And by using the Evolution Editor you can build a hundred thousand unique variations if you are so inclined.

Space Filling Curve Halftone

Experiment building a halftone screen from a space filling curve. Generated in Studio Artist 4 using the new Hilbert MSG processors. There are 3 different screens derived from space filling curves for the color image, 1 for each color plane.
